Grandma's Chocolate Pie

1/2 c cocoa
1/4 c cornstarch
3 egg yolks
1-1/2 c sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 c milk
1 tsp vanilla
pie crust

Mix cocoa, corn starch, and beaten egg yolks.
Add sugar and salt and vanilla.
Add milk gradually, while stirring in pot over medium-high heat.
Cook until thick, beating it smooth.
Pour into pre-baked pie shell. Put in fridge to chill.

Meringue (if desired):

2 egg whites
4 TBS sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla

Beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually add sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form.
Add vanilla.
Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes or until brown.
